Hope. That’s what the Hollings Cancer Center offers to South Carolinians who may develop cancer someday.
Hope is the reason the Center was created in 1993 to find better ways to prevent, diagnose, care for, and even cure cancer. In spring 2009, Hollings Cancer Center was named a designated cancer center by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). This makes us South Carolina's only NCI-designated cancer center -- and one of only 65 in the country. Being an NCI-designated cancer center means we can bring the best research, clinical trials, and new therapies to our patients. After all, the answers to cancer's complex questions are pursued in the labs first and then delivered to patients. Hope is what drives our researchers to discover cutting-edge treatments and prevention strategies that our doctors and health professionals deliver in a way that’s personalized for each cancer patient. Located on the Medical University of South Carolina campus in Charleston, the Hollings Cancer Center is the largest academic-based cancer program in the state. We have united the best medical, research, and scientific resources in a single location, with a singular focus on cancer. These resources are extended throughout the state via partnerships with other healthcare organizations, ensuring that all residents have access to our innovative care. For the 23,000 South Carolinians who will be diagnosed with cancer this year, the Hollings Cancer Center is the place to go for hope that their cancer battle will be won.
